Mark Towsley is a senior physicist with Minneapolis Radiation Oncology, P.A.  His base clinic is Regions Hospital in St. Paul, MN.  Mark Towsley is a member of the American Association of Physicist in Medicine (AAPM) and certified Medical Physicist by the American Board of Radiology (ABR) in Radiation Oncology, Diagnostic Radiology and Nuclear Medicine.

Mark Towsley received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Physics and Math from UW Eau Claire, Eau Claire Wisconsin.  He received a Master's Degree in Medical Physics from University of Wisconsin Madison, Madison, Wisconsin.

Mark Towsley has 20 + years of experience in Medical Physics.  He has commissioned and maintained many programs throughout Minnesota, Wisconsin such as:

  • Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) and Qualified Medical Physicist since 1987.
  • Radioactive Prostate Seed Implants since 1995.
  • Stereotactic Radiosurgery (SRS) both framed based and Frameless Image Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT) since 1996.
  • Electronic Portal Imaging (EPID's) since 1998. 
  • Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) since 1998.
  • High Dose Rate Brachytherapy (HDR) since 2001.
  • Image Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT) since 2008.
  • Sterotactic Body Radiation Therapy (SBRT) and Lung Respiratory Gating Hypo-fractionation since 2009.
  • Intensity Modulated Arc RadioTherapy (IMAT) since 2008

Mark's area of interest is Quality Control/Quality Assurance.  He has given several talks and consulted over the years on maintaining QA programs. He also has experience in radiation protection shielding design and environmental measurements.

Mark has consulted over the years in Diagnostic radiology, Radiation Oncology and Nuclear Medicine.   He has been a radiation safety office at many institutions over the years working with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), Wisconsin Department of Health - Radiation Protection and Minnesota Department of Health – Radioactive Materials and X-ray division.
